A new webinar was held on Tuesday, November 17th, led by Viña Concha y Toro’s Center for Research and Innovation (CRI), which brought together experts from the wine world around the current scenario of wineries and the different technologies that exist to optimise processes and the use of resources in wine making.
Regard to the company’s current scenario, José Cuevas, R & D and Innovation in Engineering, in company with Ricardo Luna, Postdoctoral researcher in Engineering, both from the CRI, contextualized the concept of precision oenology, which basically means the intelligent management of the data-based winery processes.
The implementation of Smartwinery -a winemaking simulator of red varieties developed by the CRI in 2017- has shown positive progress. This unique platform works and is integrated with other existing tools, such as SAP and Redline.
On the other hand, during the webinar, Jean-Marie Sablayrolles, Director of the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) of France, and Simon Nordestgaard, Senior Engineer of the Australian Wine Research Institute, discussed the current scenario of the foreign wine cellars where they highlighted that most continue to use mechanical methods over data intelligence. Despite this, both of them highlighted the diversity of tools and platforms that would allow the optimisation of production processes within the cellars if they used sensors or software based on data intelligence.
